Louisiana Water Iris.......
Early in the last century adventuresome gardeners in Louisiana began collecting their native wild swamp iris and adding them to their domestic plantings. The diversity of colors and structure had the botanist John Small declare Louisiana 'the iris center of the universe'.  While some experts claim hardiness into z-6 several varieties do well in z-4 and even into Canada. Their awesome array of colors and delicate foliage lends a hand making a focal point in any garden where they are planted.  Louisiana iris prefer rich organic soil on the acid side and full sun. While they can thrive in water during the growing season it is suggested to have their roots in drier ground during the winter months. If planted in typical garden soil make sure to administer ample water each week. At least 2 inches per week should do it.
